The Best Age To Start Your Child In Dance

If you’re considering starting your child in dance classes, you may be wondering just when is the best age to start them and why. As a parent, you want to prepare your child for life by helping them to build skills and knowledge that they’ll use as they grow and change into individuals of their own, and dance is a great way to encourage that. At Move Dance Family, we’re here to help parents like you get your child moving, dancing, and building the skills and confidence they need to thrive in school, in dance, and in life!

Beginning Young

At Move Dance Family, we’re focused on helping your child learn dance and we recommend starting between the ages of two and seven so they not only get a potential head start on other dancers, but they also have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills for developing a passion. When your child starts dancing at a young age, they get the benefit of learning a discipline that helps to train their bodies and minds at the beginning of their life.

Build Habits

When your child begins dancing at a young age, one of the many benefits is that they learn the importance of a schedule as they grow. Because dance classes are held on a regular basis, they’ll have an additional dance-related item added to their daily schedule, whether it’s attending dance class or practicing their skills regularly in between classes. As they age, this habit development will help them regulate their schedule better to fit in all their activities, responsibilities, and passions.

Developing Strength and Motor Skills

As your child grows and develops dancing skills, they’ll not only gain the skills to adhere to a schedule, they’ll also gain physical skills learned through dance techniques and training. These physical skills can help to keep your child stronger and maintain better motor skills as they grow. This also means that they’ll have better control over their movements and body as they grow, helping to prevent injuries and accidents from falls, trips, and growing pains.

Growing a Social Circle

Another benefit of starting your child early in dance classes is that they’ll be surrounded by other dancers as they grow into higher age groups. By allowing them to spend time around other children in their age group who have similar interests and challenges, they’ll learn social skills and gain friends who have characteristics in common as they grow.
